Font Finagler overviewFont Finagler can help troubleshoot misbehaving fonts. If you're having problems on your system with text appearing "garbled" as in the sample image above, it could be caused by corrupt font cache files. What appears to be happening is that incorrect or corrupted encoding vector information is being used when mapping the character codes as input by your keyboard to the glyphs they represent in the problematic font. You can run Font Cache Cleaner to purge these cache files in an attempt to restore normal behavior. If you use Font Cache Cleaner but the problem remains, then it could be caused by a font conflict or by a corrupt font. Try removing fonts to isolate the problematic fonts that are causing this behavior. What’s new in version 2.0.1Adds support for macOS 13 (Ventura).Write your thoughts in our old-fashioned commentMacUpdate Comment Policy. Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question. After clean installing Leopard and using Apple's Migration tool, Suitcase Fusion reports "Missing Fonts" or "cannot preview the fonts". The same occurs with Leopard upgraded over Tiger. Extensis seems to be oblivious to the problem and we have cleaned up the font caches (with Font Finagler as well as Shift booting the Macs). We have been upgrading or migrated several users in various environments and we have had varying levels of success. Does any one know why Suitcase behaves this way? Is the font db dependent on the drive name or user account? Is there any way to repair the font database? Perhaps the fonts are on a remote volume (not mounted when the db updates.) "Find Missing Fonts" doesn't seem to correct the problem. MacBook (BootCamp), various Macs and servers, Mac OS X (10.4.7) Posted on Jun 3, 2008 1:57 PM Fusion vs Leopard

After going through a lot of reading for OS X fonts I still can't find a solution. I have installed several applications and fonts that made Safari render pages in a weird way. By weird I mean that if a web site contains both Greek and English words the Greek ones are rendered by the Lucida Grande font and the English ones by the Verdana font. If I disable the Verdana font then Greek is displayed by Lucida Grande and English by Genova. There is no way to have one consistent font for a multi language web site anymore. I uninstalled all extra fonts and I reinstalled just the system and library fonts as they should be when you install OS X for the first time. Then I used Font Finagler to rebuild my cache. Nothing no luck. I read the extensive tutorial found here in Apple discussions but still no luck. I only have the default fonts installed, caches rebuilt the whole lot! Please o please help me with this I really don't want to reinstall OS X. PS: All applications work fine, this is my only issue. Another thing that might be of help is that Firefox and Camino can not render Greek pages properly at all. Even if I set the browsers to override the web site's fonts I have no luck. If I set the web site to pick its fonts I get all accented letters substituted by question marks... I am using OS X 10.4.6. Dfontifier 2.0.1 Version 2.0.1, May 10, 2004 Copyright © 2004-2025, Mark Douma. All rights reserved. Product Requirements: Mac OS X 10.2.x - 10.4.x Updated January 23, 2008: Due to changes Apple made to modernize the file-system APIs in Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and later, the method dfontifier 2.0.1 used in previous versions of OS X to access the resource and data forks of files is no longer supported. As a result, the stand-alone version of dfontifier doesn’t work properly and isn’t supported under Leopard. Instead, you can use the dfontifier feature of Font Finagler. What’s new in this version: Worked around an AppleScript bug affecting the System Events application within OS X v.10.2.8 specifically, where it would fail to set the file type and creator type of converted fonts, resulting in generic-looking documents rather than usable fonts. A couple of minor user-interface tweaks. Product Description: dfontifier is an application that can convert Mac OS X-style Datafork TrueType fonts (.dfonts) into ordinary Mac OS 9-style TrueType fonts and vice versa. License: dfontifier is considered donation-ware. This application is completely free for personal use. If, however, you find it useful, please feel free to donate! If you’re using in a commercial setting, however, you are strongly encouraged to donate. :-) Many thanks to those who’ve already donated! I have a PayPal account registered at mdouma46@mac.com.
