They took a great app ("iOverlander Legacy"), removed features (built-in offline places), and added cost ($100/year). The Legacy App was never available offline, it was just the cache of your phone. The new app has features, the Legacy never had, like favorites, 5 different map styles, a search function, amenity filters and real offline maps. Just to name a few. They need to know how badly they fumbled the ball here. A complete failure in transitioning to a paid subscription by removing all features, then adding them behind a massive paywall. The Dyrt is better in every way and only 35 dollars a year. It is actually insane they think they can charge 100 a year for a inferior product. Real offline maps (not just the cache of your device), a search function, amenity filters, dark mode, adding favorites, just to name a few. Behind the paywall are only those features we have to pay for, too.I think the app is great and the content for the most part is really well done. The new app is horrible.. want to ensure this one still works. Turn off auto updates for play store and disable auto synchronize in app. I think that will least preserve what has already been downloaded, and by not syncing to their system will not allow deleting your cached places to force you to the new app. see how long that can last : )32 people found this review helpfuliOverlander LLCSeptember 8, 2021With every new app version we are introducing new features and improving existing ones. IOverlander is a mapping project started by overlanders Sam Christiansen of Song of the Road and Jessica Mans of Life Remotely. It began with the simple desire to combine many of the current overlander accommodation listings on the web. Of course, one thing turned into another, an iPhone app was born, and so was this website. We’ll be confined to spreadsheet no longer! This projects contributors number many more than just the founders. Many travelers have dedicated their time, ideas and most importantly their GPS coordinates. Thanks to all of you! Our Mission iOverlander’s mission is to support and encourage overland exploration of the world, while respecting local cultures, people and environments. iOverlander Definition iOverlander is a tool, by and for overlanders, which enables its users to submit, amend and find information and opinions, primarily about places that are essential for the act of overlanding, and secondarily non-essential places that are of interest to a significant group of overlanders. Overlanding Definition Wikipedia defines it best: Overlanding is self-reliant travel to remote destinations where the journey is the principal goal. Typically, but not exclusively, it is accomplished with mechanized off-road capable transport, where the principal form of lodging is camping, often lasting for extended lengths of time (months to years), and spanning international borders. How did we get here? Well, a lot of very long email chains. But we did have a plan from the beginning, this is how we started: Take existing overlander accommodation listings from the web and combine into one standard format. Make a browse-able online database that current overlanders can use to find places. Create a simple way to update and add reviews to each place. Encourage overlanders to track their trip, and add places and update existing information. What’s important? When creating a site like this, there are many things to consider. But every detail doesn’t mean a thing unless you know what is important to your project. These things are important to us. Of course this list isn’t complete, but these are standards we constantly remind ourselves of. There will always be a free version App to remove it (as it said subscribe and nothing more) but the add spoofed registering for what I thought was ioverlander and turned out to be malicious and now has my email info and is spamming me... Almost got my credit card too. Then another add on the detail page over takes the whole page and I couldn't close out, only forced to go to that ads page and force close ioverlander. As this app is right now I would not pay for it find myself looking at the older app. The search function does not work as t well as they lead on. I would definitely revise before losing more customers. Go to settings>preferences>map styles. For sure there is one that fits your needs! The search function is for subscribers only, because the geocoding service behind search is not free. A designated camping spot that was level.Nestled amongst the rocks with a lot to climb and see. Even during a hot day (90 degrees) it was easy to stay cool in the shade because of the nice breeze. Report Check-In First IOverlander spots are permanently closed but a little further the spots where you can camp are well indicated. View is incredible! Report Check-In a lot of ioverlander spots in this area should now be marked as closed. there are still allowed camping spots on this side of movie flat road. we easily found spots by taking the first left coming back southbound on movie flat rd from the mobius arch loop trailhead. amazing location. no high clearance or 4wd needed. Report Check-In Nice, scenic place to spend the night. We camped on the east side of Movie road in a camper van. Would like to spend more time in this area. Report Check-In Good quiet spots in a lovely area. Checked the visitor info board at the trailhead previously posted and BLM website; no camping on west side of Movie Road, on east side camping is permitted only in spots with existing fire pits and no 'no camping' or 'day use only' signs. Further changes to come later this year though so be sure to check. No T-Mobile signal. Report Check-In Didn’t stay at these exact coordinates but there’s lots of spots around! Roads in are dirt/gravel but manageable in 2WD (we didn’t venture too far in though). Not busy at all on a weekday in January. Wind can pick up so just be prepared for that. As stated in other comments… Alabama Hills BLM is changing rules. There’s lots of “Day Use Only” and No Camping signs posted so just be careful! I added a map posted at
