With a tiller, one, two, or three passes with the implement and you will have a reasonably smooth seed bed 6-8" deep.A Disc Harrow is another form of tiller, for use mixing soil in long rows in a field. You would need a Disc Harrow with 22" diameter pans, spaced 7" to 7-1/2" apart. You would have to go over the area multiple times, probably three, four or five passes, to loosen and mix the soil. Disc Harrows do not mix soil unless pulled at a brisk clip. You would still need to rake or drag soil prior to seeding or sodding. With 22" diameter pans, you could till 8"-9" deep. A Disc Harrow of this description costs $2,500 - $3,500 new.(DH20/22" - 84" width)Everything Attachments XTreme Duty Large Deluxe Box Frame Disc HarrowA PTO powered tiller will better meet your needs than a Disc Harrow. Expense aside, a Harley Rake would be optimum.
