It was a 240 GB SSD which I wanted to partition into 2 partitions (100 GB for Win8 and programs, the rest for my data files). When I did a clean install of Win8 onto an Asus Q301LA laptop , I was able to restore the Win8 ISO to a flash drive using Microsoft's USB Download tool. I then booted the laptop from the USB drive, created the partitions using MBR, restarted the installation process, and installed Win8. I did not run into the UEFI issue with the Asus laptop. Remove all power & swap hardware ... AFTER you shutdown Windows While holding the "shift key" down before you select shutdown & KEEP that "shift key" down until PC is Off. (this Clears the Windows fast startup file, so Windows looks at current drivers & hardware & not just "restart from the old profile of last boot") swap cards On reboot, check that MB BIOS has Fast Boot turned OFF (you want MB to take inventory of hardware , save the BIOS change if needed & BOOT then enter Windows .... next , select Restart in Windows from shutdown menu. If you have any issues, then go offline (disconnect from network)..... & just use the Windows software removal tool to remove old driver ... reboot & then install driver & shutdown Windows While holding the "shift key" down before you select shutdown & KEEP that shift key down until PC is Off. & reboot again DDU is only Needed if you have issues or are switching brands from AMD to Nvidia GPU or Nvidia to AMD DDU has an update that mentions the boot loop, if I remember correctly & Always use safe mode with DDU ...... After you update your restore point & drive image & you already backup critical files (right) EDIT: Did not think to post this originally; but, people still make this mistake from time to time so, I thought I'd save someone somewhere the pain & mention ---> make sure you Turn Off all background software First, especially OC software like X1 or AB when installing GPU drivers & this also means you need to disable the auto-start feature, if you previously had it turnedFast Boot by ASUS - Should I Remove It?
