285 Accesses Definition The measures taken to prevent, or respond to, criminal behavior. Introduction The concept of security literally refers to “a state of being free from danger or threat” (Oxford Dictionary). This is a very broad definition, and the word security is therefore used in different ways in different contexts. It may refer to a state of being free from many kinds of dangers and threats (e.g., war, unemployment, illness, or accidents). Some commentators have identified the fact that when security is used in this broad way, what is actually meant is insecurity (see, e.g., Schuilenburg and Van Steden 2014). In this context, it is important to point out the difference between “security from” (shielding from harm) and “security to” (enabling people to pursue their goals) (Crawford and Hutchinson 2016). Security as a Contested Concept Security as a concept is highly contested: there seems to be little agreement over its meaning (Crawford and Hutchinson 2016). Contributing to this... Skip To Main ContentUI Athletics Style Guide Opens in a new window UI Licensing Program Opens in a new window Established in 1982, the University of Iowa Trademark Licensing Program was established to protect the university’s ownership interest in its word marks, trademarks, logos, and/or symbols associated with The University of Iowa and to generate royalty fees to support the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics by funding scholarships for male and female student-athletes. There are approximately 600 companies licensed with the University of Iowa Trademark Licensing Program.Any product bearing the logos, trademarks, word marks, or having an implied association with the University of Iowa must be licensed with the University of Iowa Trademark Licensing Program, which approves all products and designs, and ensures proper labeling. In addition, The University of Iowa Trademark Licensing Program seeks to insure that all products and designs submitted for licensing are safe for consumers and project the proper image of the university and the intercollegiate athletics program. The University of Iowa Trademark Licensing Program receives an 12% percent royalty on the wholesale cost of the licensed merchandise that is sold. A Minimum Royalty per Unit (MRU) applies to all t-shirts and sweatshirts. The MRU for t-shirts is 50 cents and the MRU for sweatshirts is $1.00.One of the most important functions of the University of Iowa Trademark Licensing Program is to protect the University of Iowa legal interests in its registered trademarks. It is necessary to do so because the law requires that the university actively safeguard registered trademarks from improper use in order to protect its legal ownership interest in them.Licensing AgreementsThere are three types of license agreements available to vendors seeking to market products bearing the logos and trademarks of the University of Iowa.Nonexclusive Standard Licensing AgreementNonexclusive Cottage Licensing AgreementNonexclusive Promotional Products Licensing AgreementLicensingAT T University Housing - Apartments.com
