Shortcut to Translate Screenshots in Google Translate
Android's screenshot UI on Pixel phones now shows a Google Lens translate shortcut Google Sign in to your XDA account Google Lens has been seamlessly integrated into Google's Android and many other smartphones since it was first introduced in 2017. And perhaps one of the most useful capabilities of it is the ability to translate text off pictures and screenshots. While the Google Translate app has offered this feature for a long time, Google Lens adds that capability to your camera app and makes the feature accessible from any part of the UI. But it doesn't just allow you to translate pictures, as you can translate screenshots, or parts of a screenshot, as well. And the screenshot UI on Google Pixel phones now makes this even easier. Now, when taking a screenshot, if the phone detects your screenshot has text written in a foreign language, the bottom UI will give you a "translate" button alongside "share" and "edit". It will then automatically detect the text and translate it to English for you. From there, it will allow you to either copy the translated text or download the foreign language to allow offline translation. Having this feature is pretty useful. If you're reading something in another language and want to quickly translate it without actually copying the text and moving it to the Google Translate app (or even if the text is written in an image and not copyable), this feature allows you to just take a screenshot, tap translate, and you're good to go in seconds. Images that do not have any writing will not have the button pop-up, as Google Lens looks for the text before offering to translate it. Of course, it's also not perfect just yet, as 9to5Google reports that the button sometimes pops up when the screenshot displays English text. This feature seems to be already rolling out to Pixel users running stable Android 11, but if you don't have it yet, it may take some time to reach your device. The feature seems to be tied to a server-side flag in Device Personalization Services.

What we need to do is choose a cell underneath that column. For this example, we will choose cell B2. Step 2: Enter Google Translate FormulaDone choosing the empty cell in your spreadsheet. Great. It’s now time to input the Google Translate formula. To do that, navigate to the formula bar and type in the following formula: =GOOGLETRANSLATE(A1,”en”,”fr”)This formula translates the phrase in A1, which is in English, into French. Step 3: Press EnterWith the Google Translate formula inputted, as we showed you above, all you need to finish the translation is to press the Enter button on your keyboard. Once you press the button, the translation result should be generated almost instantly. Here is what the translation result looks like in our sample sheet. Step 4: Translate Other RowsFrom the screenshot above, you can see that we only translated the first phrase from English to French. So, we need to repeat the process for the other cells. But instead of repeating the process from scratch, we can use Google Sheets auto-fill feature to auto populate the result for the other cells. To use this, click on the cell and drag down the blue dot at the bottom right part of the cell to cover all the desired cells. The video below shows how Google Sheets auto-feature works. Looking at everything we have covered so far, we are sure you’ll agree that translating text in Google Sheets using the Google Translate function is straightforward. But we are not done yet. We are just scratching the surface of what you can do with the Google Translate function in Google Sheets. The next example we will cover will take things up a notch. Using Auto as a Language Argument to Translate in Google SheetsPreviously, we translated individual cells by manually specifying the source and output languages, like “English” and “French.” However, in some cases, you may not know the language used within the spreadsheet. This is where the “Auto” feature comes in handy.Leverage Auto Detect Across an Entire SheetLet’s look at a scenario where automatic language detection would be beneficial. Imagine we have a Google Sheet housing some phrases that we don’t know what language they are written in, but we want to translate those into English. Here is what that looks like: Our goal here is to translate these phrases into English. Since we might not know the language the phrase is writtenGoogle translator landscape screenshot bug

Consider the context of a text when generating translations. Considering context can be the difference between simply translating individual words in a sentence and generating a translation that truly reflects the author's or speaker's intention. Take the Spanish sentence “Gracias por preguntar, pero estoy bastante seguro aquí” for instance. Google Translate produces "Thanks for asking, but I'm pretty sure here" as the translation. While this isn't entirely wrong, depending on the context, the sentence could mean, "Thanks for asking, but I'm safe here." Of course, Google Translate will provide the same translation no matter how many times you attempt to translate it because it doesn't have a way to recognize contextual nuance. As per the screenshot above, ChatGPT will attempt to provide the most accurate translation depending on the provided context. Providing context can significantly improve the quality of your translation. If you are not sure how to provide context, here are some inspirations: "Translate [text to translate in Filipino] to English from the perspective of a native Filipino speaker" should try to maintain as many cultural connotations as possible in a translation. "Translate [text to translate] to English from the perspective of someone discussing the COVID-19 pandemic" should use appropriate medical terms instead of generic words. "Translate [text to translate] to English. The text discusses a battle during WWII" should use appropriate military and historical terms. You can adjust each prompyour chosen languageosing, and ChatGPT will do the rest. 2. Declare the Type of Text Another important factor that can increase the accuracy of your translation is outright declaring the kind of text you're trying to translate. For example, is it an idiom, a song, a financial document, or an ordinary text? Simply letting ChatGPT know what you're trying to translate gives the chatbot an edge toward providing more accurate translations. Instead of simply using a prompt like "Translate [text to translate] to [target language]." You should ideally use alternatives like: Translate the [Financial report | poem | song | Bible portion | proverb] in quotes to [target language] Translate [text to translate] to [target language]. The text to be translated is a [military report | medical document | drug prescription] The prompts above or similar ones help ChatGPT use relevant or industry-specific context when generating a translation. Although ChatGPT sometimes recognizes the right niche words to use for translation, you'll have to explicitly prompt it to do soComments
