Ink Master Sign in to your ScreenRant account One of the most consistent tattoo artists on Ink Master: Battle of the Sexes is 24-year-old Holli Marie; she is flying under the radar to make it to the end of the competition. This young, talented tattoo artist from Deep River, Connecticut has been making a name for herself all over the country. After being invited to Ink Masters a few years back, she finally decided to take on the televised tattooing competition. Holli, who is described as a multi-faceted artist skilled in traditional work, consistently delivers the judges amazing tattoos with clean linework and expert color. She excels in traditional tattoo work with a knack for black and gray and watercolor, and she has delivered masterful tattoos up for judging week after week. In Season 12 of Ink Master: Battle of The Sexes, teams of male and female tattoo artists battle against each other to win $100,000 and the coveted title of Ink Master, and Holli is here to win. This season of Ink Master covers the controversial subject of sexism in the tattooing industry, in which Holli has had her fair share of. As female tattooers are becoming just as common in the male-dominated workplace, this season captures the struggle young women have while breaking into the industry. Ink Master contestants compete in various tattoo challenges that not only test the artists’ technical skills, but also their on-the-spot creativity by creating and executing original tattoos on command. Holli has been praised on her previous tattoos for having rich black tones, excellency creating contrasting colors, and crafting some of the cleanest outlines the judges have seen. With Holli's six years of experience as a tattoo artist, she has been the underdog since the beginning of her career and this competition, fighting against all odds and discrimination to come out on top. Holli has a strategy of lying low to not be recognized as a threat too early on in the competition, while still staying out of the bottom three. There has been conversation being started about gender due to season 12 being Ink Master: Battle of the Sexes, so Screen Rant spoke with Holli Marie to talk about how this season tackles the subject of sexism in the tattooing workplace and how she manages to play the social game in the competition, while still creating master-level ink on the human canvases. Ink Master describes you as “a multifaceted artist who is skilled in traditional work, featuring clean linework and expert color.” Tell me some background information on yourself, how did you get started tattooing? I started tattooing about 6 years ago now. I was straight out of high school, I graduated and then instantly went into a tattoo shop and started working. When I was in high school, I was a portrait artist, so I did a lot of realistic [tattoos]. I loved black and grey when I first started tattooing. So, I started out as being my shop's only realism

Led to others sharing similar experiences they had with Loftis. The final nail in the coffin for Tamara was that, allegedly, Loftis offered her alcohol during the tattoo session—a practice considered unsafe because of alcohol’s blood-thinning qualities. “If she doesn’t want to take accountability, then I’m going to post this everywhere,” Tamara said. “If I can save even one person from getting tattooed from her, I will.”Tamara didn’t immediately respond to the Daily Dot’s request for comment via TikTok comment or Instagram direct message. Has anyone else experienced this with ‘Ink Master’ tattooists? In the comments section, it soon became apparent that multiple people had horror stories about Ink Master tattooists. “If I’ve learned anything from TikTok, it’s to never trust someone who was on [Ink Master],” one viewer wrote. “I also got a horrible tattoo from an Inkmaster,” another claimed. “[The] same thing happened to me with this artist,” a third wrote. “I had the exact same experience.” Furthermore, this isn’t the first controversy to befall Ink Master. Back in 2020, longtime judge Oliver Peck left the television show after images emerged of him wearing blackface. “The offensive photos of me which recently surfaced from many years ago can only be a distraction to the amazing show I have loved being a part of and its many talented artists,” he said in a statement to TMZ.Loftis didn’t immediately respond to the Daily Dot’s request for comment via email or Instagram direct message.Update 7:46am CT, Aug. 22: Loftis shared her side of the story in a series of voice notes sent to the Daily Dot via Instagram direct message.“I’m a freehand artist, so I draw on everything with Sharpies. And I have for 22 years, you know?” she began. She said she has a unique process that she informed Tamara of immediately. “Right from the start, I told her about my process with other artists, and I started tattooing like I paint. So I tattoo a little bit differently,” she claimed. Loftis also said there were immeasurable reasons beyond artistic inspiration for why she handled Tamara’s tattoo the way she did, and the uninitiated wouldn’t understand.“There are reasons that even the background—no one has an idea what was in my head of what I was trying to accomplish, as well as [Tamara], obviously,” she said. “I had such a great time with her. Dentonite Deanna Smith, 24, more than held her own against some of the best tattoo artists in the country on this season of Ink Master.Smith is still a couple of months shy of having four years logged as a professional tattoo artist. However, she made it to the top five out of 30 contestants. Her elimination came with only two episodes remaining on a portrait tattoo, her specialty. Despite falling short of winning the competition, her time on Ink Master has changed her life and career for the better. Now that she’s no longer restricted by the television network's nondisclosure agreement, save for announcing the winner, she’s allowed to speak about her time as a contestant. “I was there for about two months," she says. "There were only two episodes left [after I was eliminated], so a full two months is the extent of how long you’re there if you make it that far." Life outside of the competitions on Ink Master is not recorded, but Smith describes it as a communal college dorm-type existence. “We were kind of sardined together,” she says. “It’s really cool because we were all in one loft and we all actually hung out. There were people who just did their own thing or stayed in their room. But for the most part, me and other contestants would stay up until 3 a.m. sometimes, drawing, drinking, and it was so much fun.” Ink Master contestants are subjected to strenuous obstacles, and their work is scrutinized. “I’m not used to having my tattoos looked at under a microscope," Smith says. "It’s a competition show, so you have to put that pressure on the artists for everything to be perfect. But I don’t fully agree that what makes a tattoo perfect is how straight the line work is, or how solid the saturation is. I think it’s about when you see a tattoo, does it look dope? If the answer is yes, then it’s a good tattoo." During her time on the show, Smith refrained from arguing or boasting about her skills. In hindsight, she says there were pros and cons to that decision. “I definitely wanted to stay true to what I believe in," she says. "I’m not one to boast about myself and say I’m the best. I honestly didn’t want to fight with anyone. I just wanted let my work speak for itself. I
