Optometry’s Meeting™Boston,MAJune 29th-July 3rd, 2016Student CE MonitorProgram Information/Frequently Asked QuestionsApplication Deadline March 28th 8:oopm ESTThe Student Continuing Education (CE) Monitor Program is an opportunity for optometry students to participate in Optometry’s MeetingTM while earning money to help pay for their trip! This program is an excellent opportunity to network with other students and doctors, sit in on quality educational courses, and play an integral part in optometry's outstanding national meeting, a joint meeting of the American Optometric Association (AOA) and the American Optometric Student Association (AOSA). If you have never attended Optometry’s Meeting™, or if you had such a great time last year that you want to go again, this program is for you!Monitor Responsibilities: Student monitors are assigned to each CE course and are responsible for taking tickets, distributing handouts, stamping tickets, recording on tally sheets, and serving as timekeeper for the speaker. Students may also serve as Room Monitors and introduce the CE Speakers for each course. Additionally, certain students serve as assistants in the CE office and speaker ready room. Monitors work with the OD, Paraoptometric, and AOSA educational programs.Number of positions available: 80-100, depending on applicant pool size and final number needed. This will be an average of 5 CE monitors per school.Payment: Student monitors will be paid based on the length of shifts that they work and an hourly rate that is approximately $16 per hour*. Each monitor will also receive a free Optometry’s Meeting™ polo shirt to wear while working. In order to receive full payment, monitors must attend one of the CE Monitor Orientation sessions prior to the first day of work, must arrive at the time specified for each shift, and work for the entire duration of the shift. Dr. Katherine S. Harano, O.D. Dr. Katherine S. Harano, O.D. has been in practice in the Bay Area the past 30 years. Originally from Berkeley, California, she received her B.A. in Zoology from the University of California, Berkeley. Then she continued to receive her B.S. and Doctor of Optometry in 1975. She started her optometry career in both private practice and in a HMO setting through Kaiser Permanente in Hayward. In 1979, she started her own practice in Fremont with her husband, Dr. Eddy L. Haw, O.D., in 1982. Dr. Harano in her spare time enjoys attending Cal football and basketball games. Dr. Eddy L. Haw, O.D. Dr. Eddy L. Haw, O.D. has been in practice in the Bay Area for over 30 years. Born and raised in Modesto, he graduated from the University of California, Davis, with a degree in Biological Science. Later he attended and graduated with a B.S. and Doctor of Optometry at the University of California, Berkeley, with honors. Dr. Haw enjoys working with speciality contacts including rigid gas permeable lenses, Synergeyes lenses, and scleral lenses. Dr. Haw enjoys watching action movies and spending time with his dog, Sketter.Dr. Kimberly Haw, O.D. Dr. Kimberly Haw, O.D., daughter of Dr. Eddy Haw and Dr. Katherine Harano was raised in the bay area. She attended University of California, Santa Cruz and received her bachelor of arts in Biology, then proceeded to Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton California. Kimberly is currently a member of the California Optometric Association and the Alameda Contra Costa Optometric Association. Dr. Haw has completed clinical rotations at Palo Alto Veterans Affairs Health Care System, Sharp Rees-Stealy Department of Optometry in Chula Vista, and the Center of Partially Sighted in Santa Monica. Dr. Haw also enjoys spending time with her two children and her amazing husband.
