Nic on Wogan 2025 - Nicolas Cage Forum/ Planet Cage
Few actors are able to give such unhinged performances as Nicolas Cage – the man who yelled the alphabet front-to-back in Vampire’s Kiss, ran around punching people while wearing a bear costume in The Wicker Man remake, and battled literal demons with a chainsaw in Mandy. He’s a master of going out there, and he’s about to face his greatest task in upcoming comedy The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent: playing himself. The meta-movie from writer-director Tom Gormican is due to go into production soon, and will see the actor portray two fictionalised versions of ‘Nicolas Cage’ – a present-day Cage, and a younger, wilder one.Speaking to Empire in the upcoming The Mandalorian issue, Cage opened up about the film and his tailor-made role. “It’s a stylised version of me, and the fact I even have to refer to myself in the third person makes me extremely uncomfortable,” he says. “There are many scenes in the movie where modern or contemporary – here we go – ‘Nic Cage’ and then young ‘Nic Cage’ are colliding and arguing and battling it out. It’s an acrobatic approach to acting.”It’s not just in the movies that Cage has gone, well, full-Cage. Back in 1990, he made an iconic, all-time-great appearance on Terry Wogan’s chat show Wogan, quite literally somersaulting into the show, throwing money at the crowd, and karate-kicking his way into interview history – and he's going to channel that energy once again for the role. “Remember that talk show I went on, Wogan, when I was promoting Wild At Heart?” asks Cage – as if it were possible to forget. “Young Nic Cage [in the film] will be that guy. But this is a very stylised version of me. It’s definitely just me ‘taking the piss’, as they say, out of myself.”Invoking a younger Cage means that the actor will be doing something he rarely does – revisiting his previous movies, with the possibility that Gormican’s film might do the same. “I don’t like to look back,” he explains. “But this movie kind of pushes it all back in my face. I’m probably going to have to look at a couple of the movies from the past again, because I think we’re gonna have to reenact some of those sequences. It’s like walking through a Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari version of Con Air and Face/Off.”Read Empire’s full Nicolas Cage interview – talking Lovecraft adaptation Color Out Of Space, Nicolas Cage memes, Mandy and more – in the upcoming April issue of Empire, on newsstands from Thursday 20 February. Exertion and then he attempted to explain his behavior. "You know, I'm sorry about that. I just had to get it off my chest. I was a bit wound up back there so... Just a little worked up." After Terry Wogan asked Cage if he gets carried away amid more audience laughter, the actor's response was fascinating. "Well... I don't know if I get carrried away. I just sort of have a good time and you, you know, you invited me on your show, so I'm just gonna have a blast!" Related Nicolas Cage Didn't Always Make Bank From His Most Famous Films, But Sometimes He Made An Absolute Fortune Despite Nicolas Cage's massive profits from both his best and worst films, his net worth remains surprisingly low. After some more back and forth, Terry Wogan tried to get the interview back on track. Bringing up Wild at Heart, Wogan praised the film as a whole and especially focused on his opinion that Cage was great in it. Amazingly enough, however, after briefly thanking the host, Cage instantly changed the subject. During this appearance, Cage came out wearing a leather jacket. Remarking on that, Cage stated that the leather was getting hot as he prepared to do something about it. At that moment, the reasonable thing for Cage to do seemed to be taking his leather jacket off. At first, Cage appeared to be doing that. However, as Cage explained to Terry Wogan, he only did this, so he could take the Wild at Heart t-shirt he was wearing off and give it to the host. Via: BBC1 At the sight of Cage taking off his shirt, some in the studio audience began whooping and hollering. Excited by that, Cage responded by punching into the air twice in a celebratory manner. Cage then put the leather coat he'd just described as too hot back on. Now shirtless, wearing a leather jacket, somewhat breathless, and clearing his throat occasionally, Cage finally started discussing his film and craft. Still, things didn't become normal from there. Instead, Cage remarked that he believed he would be a bank robber if he wasn't an actor. Cage also asked Terry Wogan if he wanted to rob a bank with him. Cage then talked about pranks he pulled as a kid, getting beat up as a child, and going to a correctional school for juvenile delinquents. Sign in to your Collider account Where to even begin when speaking about Nicolas Cage? He is a national treasure on and off the film screen. The memes and gifs are endless of crazed, excited, or angry Nic Cage faces for any occasion. He has given us amazing films across so many genres like Mandy, Con Air, Valley Girl, and Face/Off. However, there is one movie that is underrated and overlooked that became the blueprint for a Cage performance. And with Cage getting ready to play a vampire again in Renfield, let's take a look at 1988 Robert Bierman film, Vampire's Kiss. Vampire's Kiss is about a white-collar man in New York named Peter Loew who finds himself in a unique situation after a one-night stand. Peter wakes up the next day certain that he is a vampire and nothing can convince him otherwise. Despite others not agreeing with him and there being no physical changes, Peter definitively decides that he is a vampire and even begins wearing plastic fangs and stalking women to live up to his view of himself. Cage's performance of a man descending into psychotic madness is some of his best work and the truest form of Cage that you can find. Back when this film was in production, Nicolas Cage was still finding his footing in the industry. He almost didn't take the role due to there being a director swap in the very beginning as was said on the Vampire's Kiss DVD Commentary. Eventually, the newly appointed director, Bierman, was able to get him back, and the rest is movie history. Nicolas Cage is known as a method actor who really gets intense and passionate with any role he takes. He has said "I don't act, I feel" in an interview with Variety and fans can definitely see that. Cockroaches And Bats During the filming of Vampire's Kiss, Cage took some very questionable and eccentric tactics to sell the downward spiral that Peter was experiencing. In one scene, Cage's character was initially supposed to suck on a raw egg in a moment of psychosis. Being who he is, Nic wanted to turn that up a notch to really sell what madness Peter Loew was slipping into. Instead, Cage requested that he eat a live cockroach, which is the thing he hates the most in the world. According to a detailed history on the film. This is one of those trash DVD that end up selling for $1 in the Dollar Tree and no one buys unless someone needs something to put under a wobbly table.MotonomadJun 19, 2021Permalink7/10So aft fighting an alien in Jiu Jitsu, Cage is back with his craziness minus the rage n wide eyeballs. The film is laden with cliche dialogues. Why cudnt u just die.My entire life, its like i have been a ghost. All u had to do was die. Was that so hard.If u remove the end credit (5 mins) n the start credit (01 min), the film's runtime is only 82 mins n u dont get to hear Cage utter a single word but wots with the wierd dance movements? As Ba_Harrison already mentioned, the film has a lousy sex scene. They cud have at least shown Emily Tosta kissing Cage cos her lips are luscious n she is already 22.Fella_shibbyFeb 16, 2021Permalink1/10I swear I've seen the gamut of Nic Cage films. Everything from great to mediocre to soooooo bad it's good. This one Is just bad. Plain and simple. Period.denise-99445Feb 19, 2021Permalink9/10I LOVED this movie. Just cheesey and gory and funny and campy and pure enjoyment.I've watched enough let's plays of Five Nights At Freddy's to have recognized the plot just from the description, so I was expecting Nic Cage to chew on the scenery of gore and jump scares. I would have been fine with something a little lame but with that certain Cage flair.Instead, I got something surprisingly good. The cinematography was balanced, with little bits of surreal and fun angles, but never so much to become distracting. Good color scheme and lighting, and the creature design really captured that slightly terrifying look of way-back-when Chuck E Cheese.I enjoyed how the script was full of tropes, but the actors carried it well, and everything came across well. Almost like everyone was having fun, wanted the audience to enjoy themselves, but they took it just serious enough to deliver good performances. The whole movie is right on that edge of camp and parody, without necessarily being played for laughs like a comedy. Something more like Evil Dead 2 or Kung Fury; love and enjoyment of the genres without mockery. That being said, this is NOT a horror or even really a thriller. It gets those labels because it needs some kind of genre, but it really fits in its own little niche, and it will NOT be for everyone. But as a popcorn/drinking-with-friends movie, it really hits the spot. And I cannot understate how much Nic Cage was absolutely himself, dialed to 11. Sold every scene, and stole.
