If you've been using the internet for the last 15 years or so, you probably remember, or at least came into contact with, del.icio.us, the pioneer of social bookmarking websites. Founded in 2003, the site had a number of good years before it eventually changed hands more than a few times, and has been considered mostly a forgotten relic since then. But now the sun is setting for del.icio.us, as the service will be shuttered later this month following its sale to rival Pinboard.AdvertisementAs a site that let users save and share their internet bookmarks, del.icio.us' influence can be seen on sites like Flickr, StumbleUpon, Twitter, Pocket, and Pinterist, as it was one of the first services to use the tagging system for organizing content. It was purchased by Yahoo in 2005 for price between $15-$30 million, where it was largely ignored and mismanaged for several years.Starting in 2011 it changed hanged regularly every few years: first to AVOS Systems, then to Science Inc in 2014, and again to Delicious Media in 2016. As its fifth and final resting place, Pinboard says it purchased del.icio.us "in part so it wouldn't disappear from the web" since it views it as "a fascinating piece of web history."AdvertisementAs a rival, Pinboard came around in 2009 and really started taking off two years later, when del.icio.us users rapidly began jumping ship because of frustrations with changes from AVOS. Pinboard was attractive because of its simple, clean, and fast interface — something del.icio.us once offered — and it now operates on a $11/year subscription plan.Pinboard founder and developer Maciej Cegłowski says del.icio.us will remain online indefinitely, but will go into read-only mode on June 15th, meaning users will no longer be able to save new bookmarks. They'll have the option to migrate their data to a Pinboard account, or they can use an export tool and take their bookmarks to another service, but there's no time limit to do either.SOURCE Pinboard Pinboard and click on the Sharing button on the top right Invincible1978 @leocg last edited by leocg @leocg!it is saying pinboards is not shared online...it is not creating a link Invincible1978 @leocg last edited by @leocg so i just realised i can share the link from my main opera gx profile which i use for regular stuff...but on the profile which is dedicated for my studying the pinboard sharing doesnt work there so can u please look into it leocg Moderator Volunteer @Invincible1978 last edited by @invincible1978 You probably disabled the feature in that profile. Have sync turned on but after trying out few things I was still able to recover my pinboards. Here's how to do it:Log into your Opera account. Once you're in, click the person icon at the top right corner of the browser. There you have to click on your icon to open your Opera profile dashboard.Click on "View your synchronised data" panel to open sync content section. There you will have your bookmarks, tabs, pinboards, etc. Click on the pinboards section. It will open the list of your pinboards. The problem is, when you click a pinboard to open and then you come back to main pinboard, it still shows no pinboards, which means that you'd have to do it every time to open the pinboard that you want. To fix it:go to Settings->Synchronisation and turn on the sync options. You might need to log off and back on again to make it fully work.Like I said, I didn't have the sync on and I was still able to recover my pinboards so obviously they were not completely gone, they just went invisible for some reason. It might fix the problem for you so try this method and see if this works for you. kathyb @michallica39 last edited by leocg @michallica39 Glad that worked out for you. Not so much for me. Also don't want to use fatdog drive icons, which functions on the rox-pinboard. This is so hardcoded into fatdog, but at loss of user control and choice. Code: Select alllaunch_desktop() {#if [ -e $USER_XDESKTOP ] && [ -x $USER_XDESKTOP ]; then$USER_XDESKTOP & # user desktop overrides system# elif [ -e $SYSTEM_XDESKTOP ] && [ -x $SYSTEM_XDESKTOP ]; then# $SYSTEM_XDESKTOP & # system desktop#else# default desktop: ROX desktop# INIT_DESKTOP=yes rox-desktop# if [ $USE_DRIVE_ICON ]; then#fatdog-drive-icon-frontend.sh &# fi# fi}The code you commented out above provides two hooks before it lanches rox-desktop. Use the hook. Instead of editing the core file above, you could, more simply and flexibly, write your own desktop launching code, and save it to file $USER_XDESKTOP - if it's for a single user only - or to $SYSTEM_XDESKTOP - if it's for all users. For instance, if you want to rox-desktop and no drive icons create an empty file $HOME/.fatdog/xdesktop and set its executable bit.So now I have wallset working with jwm and openbox. What replacement for desktop drive icons?Otherwise we see wallpaper being set three times during X startup. Once by fatdog sysinit using feh, then by theme-manager and finally by rox pinboard ... if I am not mistaken.I think in the basic Fatdog it's two times. Once by feh, for the system wallpaper, while the user's desktop is being finalized, then by rox pinboard for the user's wallpaper. If a user wanted to change the system wallpaper, they could do so by providing an image or a link to an image, as file $HOME/.fatdog/xinitrc-splash.Comments
