Walking the PLANK on VR! walking the plank oculus

Hello,I hope I am in the right forum here. I am new to Unreal Engine and have received a request from a customer. He wants me to create a VR application for the Oculus Quest 2 similar to Richies Plank Experience but with a different setting. He wants in detail a plank run according to his ideas. Now I have already seen some videos on Youtube how to get an application on the VR glasses, but what I don’t know is how to realize a real movement (the real walking over the plank) in the UE. Is that possible at all? Thanks in advance Astrotronic (Astrotronic) May 11, 2023, 3:54pm 2 Hi Pixler,Welcome to the Forums,Your position in space is tracked with the Quest 2, so you’d be able to realize real movement by moving in the real world. The important part would be calibrating so that you can make the best use of the VR playspace. This can be done by holding the ‘Oculus’ button on your right hand, or with the ‘Reset Orientation and Position’ Blueprint node. oculus quest 2 walk the plank; oculus quest 2 walk the plank; oculus quest 2 walk the plank; oculus quest 2 walk the plank; 152; 43; 135; sitemap As VR games go, Richie’s Plank Experience is probably one of the most recognisable even if you don’t know it by name; it’s the source of hundreds, if not thousands, of YouTube videos in which relatives – often elderly – are given their first taste of VR…and usually freak out spectacularly. So what’s it all about then? At its simplest, it really is just a way to show off the potential of VR to take you somewhere unexpected, as well as testing your tolerance and courage. You start on the street and walk into a lift (or elevator, for my readers across the pond), which takes you to the top floor of a skyscraper – when the doors open, all that’s there is a long, thin wooden plank. Are you brave enough to step out onto it, so high above ground level? How about stepping off the plank and falling to your death? And that’s it, really. Or at least that’s the basic experience (it’s cool that there’s the option to calibrate the game and use a real plank to play too). You can see what’s so appealing about using it to introduce VR to friends and family; it’s immediate, it’s short and the sense of scale and immersion is pretty impressive, even if the visuals are a tad dated in comparison to more recent Oculus Quest 2 titles – and there’s a lack of accessibility options, including recentering, available in-game without heading to the pause menu, which makes things a bit fiddly at times; especially as quite a bit of space is needed for the experience to work properly.Since launch, however, the experience has been added to with a number of fun, sometimes very scary, extras. As VR games go, Richie’s Plank Experience is probably one of the most recognisable even if you don’t know it by name; it’s the source of hundreds, if not thousands, of YouTube videos in which relatives – often elderly – are given their first taste of VR…and usually freak out spectacularly. So what’s it all about then? To the senses if you're not prepped for it. 9 RUSH Virtual reality games that have anything to do with flying, large drops, or even fast movements are bound to make someone feel sick with nerves, and Oculus' Rush is no different. Immersing yourself in a flying wingsuit is a flight experience like never before. Not only will the physical flight have your heart racing, but you must also dodge everything along the way. You'll be plummeting down sheer drops, avoiding mountain peaks and canyons as you race to the finish line. 8 Thumper You'll be traveling at lightning-fast speeds in Thumper. The game is for the brave-hearted and those experienced with high-intensity virtual gaming. If the race isn't scary enough, you crash through deathly obstacles and lack control. The possibilities in this game are endless while being absolutely terrifying. With boss battles, new moves available, and an explosion of flashing colors, the game's simple controls will have your body filled with adrenaline. 7 The Climb 2 Watching The Climb 2's trailer alone can induce mild nausea, let alone experiencing it firsthand in virtual reality. As it says in the title, this Oculus Quest game is about climbing. Experience different environments and venues as you try not to fall to your death. Play in single-player or compete with friends to see who will win in the race to the top. Try and find shortcuts by jumping to different reaching points. Climb without ropes as the possibilities lay endless, though your stomach might not be thanking you. 6 Echo VR This adventure virtual reality game was originally released in 2017 but still holds up for its high intensity. Abort Saturn and experience zero gravity as you've always imagined. Although it sounds fun, it might have your stomach doing somersaults. Push off and grab your surroundings to move. The free-to-play game can be played solo or with friends, but the high energy competition coupled with a lack of moment control means Echo VR is better left for more experienced players. 5 End Space Close calls with death are a popular part of the End Space experience. Fly in space while fighting against battleships and dodging bullets. But be careful, there'll be explosions everywhere. As the most advanced starfighter, everyone is relying on you. Battle for control of the Tartarus sector by protecting, defending, and controlling the battleship. There's a lot on the line when you're flying through, but avoiding death is your primary concern. 4 Richie's Plank Experience Richie's Plank Experience is terrifying. Riding up the lift, you're left with open doors leading onto a plank high in the sky. The drop and view will leave you scarred for life. Despite its

Against time, a checkpoint race and lastly, a sort of superpowered take on Missile Command. Though all of these are fairly barebones, they’re really fun to play and again, great for VR newbies. The plank experience itself can be slightly enhanced too, with objects placed at the end of it – a plate of cake or donuts – which can be eaten. Arachnophobes will want to steer very clear of the ‘Spider Cake’ option though, as will players of a more nervous disposition – though I’m not someone who’s scared of spiders, even I found the giant arachnids that scuttle directly at you incredibly terrifying. There’s a laidback, relaxing mode in which you can paint the sky with your jet’s trail as you fly across the city too.Lastly, there’s a hidden horror experience that goes out of its way to freak you out. I won’t spoil it, but there’s more reason for arachnophobes to steer clear among other disturbingly creepy scenes. It’s a great little package if you have the space and particularly if you intend to introduce VR to lots of new people, but Richie’s Plank Experience is a bit basic and won’t hold your attention for very long if it’s just you that’ll be making use of it. To the credit of the game’s publisher, they do at least warn potential purchasers that this is the intended purpose of the game – it’s a sort of psychological test for your friends and family, with a few extra bits of content added in to ensure you get a bit more value from the experience. Essential if you’ll be showing off your new headset, but a bit hit and miss if you’re solo or even if you have a lack of decent floor space.Richie’s Plank Experience is available on Oculus Quest, PSVR

Intensity, the game is fully adaptable with its interactive options. You have the option to adjust the width, length, height, and orientation of the plank. So if you're new to VR, it's probably best that you start a lot closer to the ground. 3 Super Hot VR Super Hot is arguably one of the best virtual reality experiences and games on the Oculus Quest. However, it would benefit you to become accustomed to more basic games before rushing into this beloved title. Jumping into new situations as soon as you successfully combat the last, you must swerve death in a race against time. This first-person experience will provide hours of fun, regardless of the possible motion sickness. Fight, shoot and dodge for the win. 2 Death Lap Death lap isn't like your normal driving game. This virtual reality driving experience is unique for its close calls with death and high-intensity gameplay. This combat racing game involves more than just controlling the wheel. Perform drifts and stunts while battling other players. They'll be hours of fun and laughs despite the fact that your life is on the line. With limitless explosions, paths, and deadly traps, watch where you race if you want to be crowned the overall winner. 1 Swarm This fast-paced game is described as being "Spider-Man with guns." You want to try your best to fly and keep your balance whilst aiming to battle and shoot the swarm before it's too late. If you want to win, you'll have to think strategically while pulling and swinging from objects and trying to stay mid-air. Swarm will have your mind racing and palms sweating, to say the least. Think about your next move, as it could be a life-or-death choice. NEXT: The Best Oculus Quest Games To Show People Who've Never Tried VR
