Re image

Resize and compress. Then I copy / paste into the Word or straight in excel from there. And compress again. The largest of the files is 3,765 KB with dimensions of 3072 x 2304. These are images we use for our magazine or our web-site so they are large and high def. I'm going to try the drag idea. Also how do you get emails to when someone answers you back here? An earlier post in this series covered GlobGPS, a simple (and simple-to-use) Garmin vector map editor. GlobGPS has a built-in raster image calibrator, but the only calibration units accepted are latitude/longitude; if you have a map in UTM or some other projection, this can create calibration inaccuracies. For that matter, if you have a raster image that’s already georeferenced, e,g, GeoTiff, MRSID or BSB, it seems like a waste to have to re-georeference it again.I’ve written a small program called GlobGPS Helper that will:Open a raster image with embedded georeferencing data; supported formats are GeoTiff, ERDAS Imagine, MRSID and BSB.Re-project the raster image to geographic/WGS84 (Plate Carree).Save the image in the JPG format that GlobGPS requires.Save a .cal file that GlobGPS can use to load and automatically geo-calibrate the file.Give you the option to save the re-projected raster image in GeoTiff format.Simple interface; just click the “Load Image …: button to select the desired georeferenced raster image, and the rest of the process is automatic:In this example, I’ve loaded a BSB navigation chart (loading the file 13235_1.kap). GlobGPS Helper uses the GDAL library to re-project the image into Plate Carree projection, WGS84, saves the image in jpg format (filename shown above to the right of the “Raster Image Output” label), and also saves the .cal calibration file that GlobGPS uses to load the jpg image and calibrate it:In housekeeping files, GlobGPS Helper automatically deletes the re-projected GeoTiff file generated from the original raster image; check the box to the left of “Don’t delete Plate Carree GeoTiff” if you’d prefer to save it (it would be called 13235_1_geo.tif in this example). The image again and do further editing then re-save again, you effectively take an image which has been effectively damaged by data loss, and compress it again, perhaps discarding different pieces of information, so the original file changes like a rumour passed among lots of people. Now of course this does depend on what kind of edits are done and their extent, and if you used the same software, and compression ratio, etc. Although people have tested this by doing several re-saves, apparently little difference can be seen after say, 5 - 7 re-saves, but as the re-saves increase, it does become noticeable until eventually the image is destroyed. This is why the latest version of apple "photo's" does not offer an edit in external editor option directly from the menus. When you try to export the image for editing in an external editor, you are offered the option of exporting the already edited version, or an unedited original. Choosing the unedited original limits this destructive re-saving cycle.This is where something like Adobe's Lightroom works magic. Each subsequent edit is done on the original file, with each edit remembered and undoable step by step.The advantage of RAW files and other formats like TIFF and photoshop .psd files are that they offer a way of saving a file with no compression applied, so no digital information is discarded.
