This method is appropriate for customers that want to upgrade firmware without the complexity of self-implementing the SoftLoad process, but cannot use NovAtel Application Suite,Manage Web, WinLoad, NovAtel Connect or WebUI to load firmware. This method requires at a minimum: The desired firmware build as an .shex file The utility – srec2softload_dev_20160603.exe The receiver must be able to connect to a terminal like RealTerm For Linux users, this method may be preferred as NovAtel does not offer production versions of Linux NovAtel Connect and Linux WinLoad. Also, some NovAtel products may not have WebUI compatibility or WebUI connection may not be easily viable for some customers. For Linux users in these situations, only a terminal program such as RealTerm is needed for the firmware upgrade (along with preparing the .shex file). There is Linux NovAtel Application Suite available which can be used for firmware upgrading (without using SoftLoad). Process for using Customer Support utilities Using the srec2softload utility Contact Customer Support at novatel.com/support and ask about the srec2softload utility. At this step the Customer Support representative may assist in directly preparing the txt batch file for you. In this case, continue at Sending Firmware Data. In a new folder, load the srec2softload_dev_20160603.exe utility and the desired shex/hex firmware file Create a blank text file (can name it as desired, e.g. "softload_OM7MR0703RN0000.txt"). This text file will be the output from the utility where the batch script will be converted and placed. In that folder, open up a Powershell window and enter: For example: .\srec2softload_dev_20160603 .\OM7MR0703RN0000.shex .\softload_OM7MR0703RN0000.txt Press Enter and the output text file will be populated with the batch file. A confirmation message/response will appear. Sending Firmware Data It can take 30 minutes to 1 hour to complete sending the entire firmware to the receiver. RealTerm is preferred, but other terminal programs may be used (at user’s discretion). Download RealTerm from: sourceforge.net/projects/realterm/. Open RealTerm, go to the Port tab. Choose the COM port to be used (if using USB or Serial) along with the appropriate baud rate. If using Ethernet, type the IP address right where the Port dropdown menu is. Baud rate is not required to be specified if using Ethernet. If using ICOM (Ethernet), ensure the Winsock option is set to Raw, otherwise the binary part of firmware will be encoded and produce CRC errors. This is not necessary if connecting via serial or USB. 2025-04-13It is important to have a USB-UART adapter and work with serial if you want to play with Domino. With serial, you will be able to access the console and have full control of the OpenWrt system and bootloader.USB-UART adapterDomino Pi has a built-in USB-UART bridge. So you have two serial connectors, one is on the MicroUSB power connector and the other is on the Ethernet board, which is connected to the Domino Core. Just connect Domino Pi to your computer. It will be powered up and at the same time you will have access to the serial.Sometime you need to connect directly to the Domino Core UART, and you will need a USB-UART adapter.ATTENTION: If you are connecting with an external USB-UART adapter, be sure connect to the correct pins:In WindowsIf you want to use connector 1, Windows will automatically detect the USB to UART Bridge and install drivers. Find its com number. (Which is COM36 in my case.) If you use your own USB UART adapter, you will have a com number also. (Which is COM4 in my case.)You need a serial term, we recommend PuTTY and RealTerm. Download them for free.Launch PuTTY and input COM36 as the "Serial line", 115200 as speed, check the Connection type as Serial, then click Open. Then press Enter you will enter OpenWrt.You can also connect to COM4 using the same way.At the same time, you can also connect to the serial using Connector 2. Execute realterm, fill the currect Baudrate 115200, port number 36 and click Open. ATTENTION Only one term can connect to one serial device at the same time.Working with two serialsIn the above instructions, we used two terms connected to two serial ports: PuTTY connecting to Connector 2 (original uart of Domino Core) and RealTerm connecting to Connector
