Twitch Chat Reader with Twitch API & IRCThis project is focused on using Twitch API and IRC to create a system that processes Twitch chat messages, filters them based on certain criteria (such as keywords or specific users), and integrates with a custom user interface. The main functionality includes real-time chat monitoring, keyword-based actions, and user-specific message filtering.FeaturesTwitch IRC Connection: Establishes a connection to Twitch's IRC chat system using OAuth authentication.Real-time Chat Monitoring: Listens for real-time chat messages from a Twitch channel.Keyword Detection: Detects specific keywords in chat messages (e.g., "abone", "donate") and performs corresponding actions such as changing message colors.User Filtering: Filters chat messages to only show messages from a selected user.Tkinter UI Integration: Displays chat messages in a user-friendly interface built with Tkinter, updating in real time.PrerequisitesBefore setting up and running the project, ensure you have the following installed:Python 3.xrequests, websocket-client, tkinter, asyncioA registered Twitch Developer application (for OAuth token)Twitch Developer Application SetupGo to the Twitch Developer Console and create a new application.Set up the OAuth Redirect URI as your Client ID and Client Secret for later use.How It Works1. Twitch IRC ConnectionThe script uses OAuth 2.0 for authentication to establish a connection with Twitch's IRC server. The TwitchIRC class handles the connection using the following steps:Send authentication details (OAuth token, username).Join the specified channel.Use the PING-PONG mechanism to keep the connection alive and prevent timeouts by responding to Twitch’s PING requests with PONG responses.2. Chat Message ProcessingOnce connected to the IRC server, the system continuously listens to real-time chat messages from the designated Twitch channel.Messages are processed asynchronously using asyncio to avoid blocking the GUI and ensure smooth performance.Specific keywords (like "abone" or "donate") are detected within chat messages, and based on these, the system dynamically changes the message's appearance (e.g., altering the color of the text).3.

You will need the Client ID & Token in the next few steps so be sure to keep this page open. Step 6: Go to Connections Simply navigate to the bottom left corner of the screen and click on open the Connections window and then click on "Discord Bot". which will Step 7: Enter Client ID & Token Enter your Client ID into the Client ID field, the Token into the Oauth-Token field. Next up enter the channel the bot will moderate in, by default this is "bot". This requires the text channel to actually exist on your discord server. 9 ©Streamlabs.com Step 8: Joining your Discord Server You’ve done all the hard work now. The only thing that remains to be done is to have the bot Join your Discord Server. After filling out the fields as specified in the previous step click on "Join Server". This will open a web page in which you will be able to pick which server the bot connects to. Pick the server and finally click on "Authorize". On a side note the bot will only work in the first server it connects to. So be sure it’s the right one otherwise you’ll have to ask the server owner to kick the bot from their server or you have to restart the process by creating a new Application and App Bot User. Step 9: Connecting the Bot to your Discord Server Simply click on "Connect" and the bot should connect to Discord if you’ve done everything correctly. Step 10: Linking Twitch & Discord Accounts to use Commands The bot will not reply to users that are attempting to use commands if they’ve not linked their Twitch and Discord account. This is especially important seeing as the bot needs to know who the actual user of the command is on Twitch to Display their points, handle permissions, etc… This process can be started by DMing the bot on Discord with !linkdiscord. The bot will tell you to message it something through Twitch Whispers. If that has been done correctly the accounts will be linked together and the user can use commands just as they would on twitch. In case a user wants to unlink their accounts they can simply DM the bot !unlinkdiscord and it will be done. 10 ©Streamlabs.com GameWisp

DescriptionUp until earlier this year, when twitch clip links were sent on Discord, every link had the video player embedded to play within Discord itself. However, earlier this year, I began noticing most twitch clip links now do not embed the video player within Discord. Instead, it now takes you to the external (twitch) webpage to view it.On rare occasions, the twitch clip link will embed the video within Discord. I can't find any reproducable pattern to make it work. It just sometimes work, sometimes doesn't but more often it doesn't. The same clip link can also sometimes produce the embed video player and most times not.Checking the Discord embed debugger for the links, it gives the warning "Unable to extract video: Internal error". On the rare occasion where it does work, there is no warning.Steps to ReproduceAny Twitch clip link can be used to reproduce the issue. Here are a few random example links for testing: any of the above links into a Discord text channel and send. They should embed the video player within Discord.Discord Embed Debugger: BehaviorIn the Discord text channel, the link should embed with the video player to be able to play the video within DiscordCurrent BehaviorMore than 50% of the time, the video player does not get embedded and only shows as linkScreenshots/VideosWorking example (rare occurrence):Discord text channelDiscord Embed Debugger{ "embeds": [ { "type": "video", "url": " "title": "ohbunnies - nickyem", "description": "Watch ohbunnies's clip titled "nickyem"", "provider": { "name": "Twitch" }, "thumbnail": { "url": " "proxy_url": " "width": 1664, "height": 936, "placeholder": "8wcOBIBoh3eQeHhReIKVggBcCQ==", "placeholder_version": 1 }, "video": { "url": " "width": 620, "height": 378 } } ]}Broken example:Discord text channelDiscord Embed Debugger{ "embeds": [ { "type": "link", "url": " "title": "Emiru - Jason Emiru cosplay?!?", "description": "Watch Emiru's clip titled "Jason Emiru cosplay?!?"", "provider": { "name": "Twitch" }, "thumbnail": { "url": " "proxy_url": " "width": 1920, "height": 1080, "placeholder": "2QcGBIKDu2qfdndzd1W+b/FrRQ==", "placeholder_version": 1 } } ]}Client and System InformationCurrently on: stable 337154 (65fd300) Host 0.0.322 arm64 Build Override: N/A macOS 14 (23.3.0)However, same issue no matter what device I send the Twitch clip links on.. To block ads at the network level, **Pi-hole** offers a powerful solution. Unlike traditional browser-based ad blockers, Pi-hole operates as a network-wide ad blocker that can be installed on a Raspberry Pi or any other compatible device within your home network.Once set up, Pi-hole intercepts and blocks ad requests at the DNS level, effectively blocking ads across all devices connected to the network, including those streaming Twitch content. This approach ensures comprehensive ad blocking without relying on individual browser extensions. Pi-hole is highly customizable and can be configured to block specific ad domains, making it a versatile tool for Twitch enthusiasts seeking network-level ad blocking.5. Alternate Twitch ClientsIn addition to using ad blockers, some users opt to access Twitch through alternate clients or applications that offer ad-free experiences. **Twitched** and **Chatty** are examples of third-party Twitch clients that provide ad-free streaming experiences with additional features.Twitched is available for various platforms, including Android, iOS, and desktop operating systems, offering an ad-free Twitch experience with a clean interface. Chatty, on the other hand, is a chat client for Twitch that can be used alongside your preferred streaming application, allowing users to enjoy Twitch streams without ads while engaging in chat.In 2024, the options for blocking ads on Twitch are diverse and effective, catering to the needs of different users. Whether you prefer a browser-based solution like uBlock Origin or AdGuard, a dedicated Twitch ad blocker like Twitch AdBlock, or a network-wide approach with Pi-hole, there’s a suitable ad-blocking tool to enhance your Twitch experience. It’s important to note that while ad blockers can improve the viewing experience, they may impact content creators’ revenue streams. Consider supporting your favorite Twitch creators through other means if you frequently use ad blockers. Ultimately, the choice of ad blocker depends on individual preferences and requirements, but the tools listed here represent some of the best options for enjoying ad-free Twitch streams in 2024.
