The 104-year-old building has been bought by a developer and is slated for demolition in the coming weeks. DALLAS — The Lizard Lounge, an iconic Dallas music venue, closed four years ago, and now, the historic building that housed the venue is scheduled to be demolished. Next Level Events, a Dallas-based music events company, posted about the sale of the building, located at 2424 Swiss Ave., on Facebook this week. "With heavy hearts, It has come to our attention that the beloved former property of 2424 Swiss Avenue has been sold to a developer and is now scheduled for imminent demolition," the post reads. "We expect this to take place in the next few weeks. If you wish to pay your last respects, now is the time." According to a posting on the website of the real estate company RE/MAX, the building has been sold. It was built in 1920. Westdale Properties is the current owner of the building, according to the Dallas County Appraisal District. The Lizard Lounge would host DJs and EDM artists every weekend for its 28 years of existence before it shuttered its doors amidst the COVID-19 pandemic in May 2020. "The cost to maintain the business during the shutdown was overwhelming," Owner Don Nedler said in a Facebook post at the time. "Thank you to everyone who enjoyed an evening, celebrated a special event or just came by for a drink and some great music. I’ve loved every minute of it and I’m not gonna lie, this one stings." The building was also at one point the home of The Church, a gothic nightclub that would run every Sunday night at the building. According to The Church's Facebook, the club continues to run at its new location, The It'll Do Club, 4322 Elm St.

The $13 million venue is expected to hold nearly 1,900 and host approximately 60 shows from touring bands per year. The contract between Del Mar Fairgrounds and Belly Up begins in April 2023, with options for renewals on a three-year period at the discretion of the fairgrounds.Echo Lounge & Music Hall (Dallas)Concert capacity: 1,000The pandemic delayed the planned May 2020 launch of Echo Lounge & Music Hall, which Live Nation developed in partnership with the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks and team owner Mark Cuban, but the 1,000-capacity club finally opened its doors in November 2021. In the city’s burgeoning Design District neighborhood, located just south of the team’s practice facility on land purchased by Cuban, the former warehouse and furniture store consists of a main music hall, a lounge and an outdoor patio and resides just across Interstate 35 from the American Airlines Center, where the Mavericks play.Enmarket Arena (Savannah, Ga.)Concert capacity: 9,500Savannah’s new Enmarket Arena is the product of a $165 million investment by the city for a venue in its underdeveloped Canal District. The building will also include a social lounge and coffee bars."The new campus was designed to support the health and wellness of Goldman Sachs' workforce," the company said in a 2023 press release announcing the site's groundbreaking. Goldman's office will incorporate a variety of amenities for employees and lots of natural greenery. Courtesy of Goldman Sachs What the neighborhood has to offerThe new campus will be based in Dallas's trendy Victory Park neighborhood, named for a nearby park known for its festivals and outdoor markets. The hub is close to the American Airlines Center where the Dallas Mavericks play, as well as the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, the Dallas World Aquarium, a Ritz-Carlton hotel, the arts district, and plenty of popular restaurants. Khalil — who also serves as the firm's global head of investment-banking services — described the location as representing "the heart of the city" because of its central location between Dallas' upscale uptown district and its vibrant business district located downtown. Goldman Sachs is building its new office tower in Dallas, accommodating projects for future headcount growth at the site. Courtesy of Goldman Sachs Texas has attracted a string of large companies, from Tesla to Charles Schwab, in recent years due to its business-friendly environment, favorable tax policies, and the region's universities, which are prime for attracting new talent.Goldman's Dallas expansion is also part of a multiyear cost-cutting plan introduced at the company's inaugural Investor Day in 2020. The bank said it would save money by shifting staffers from higher-cost centers like New York City and London, to more affordable cities like Dallas, Texas, and Salt Lake City, Utah. The bank's current leadership sees the Dallas team continuing to grow once the new office opens as a result."We build for expansion," Trinder said, "and this office is designed to accommodate future growth."Reed Alexander is a correspondent at Business Insider.
